Positions Available

On Shore—Both MI & WI

This part-time shore position includes the responsibility of loading and unloading passenger vehicles onto the Badger in the safest but fastest manner possible. The hours for this split-shift position are flexible so that you can work mornings, evenings, or both. Additional responsibilities include the handling of passenger luggage, assisting navigation during docking, the removal of garbage and recycling from the car deck, shoreside maintenance, and grounds keeping of LMC property. Starting pay is $13.00 p/hour. Benefits include 401K, holiday pay, and a season-end bonus of .50 per hour for every hour worked.
This shore position is responsible for assisting passengers with reservations and boarding the vessel. Possibly being the first voice that connects a passenger to the Badger experience you will be making reservations for families in a friendly and helpful manner. Working inside, your responsibilities include processing tickets, answering phones, making reservations and issuing gift certificates. You may also be working outside and are responsible for checking passengers and vehicles in and directing them on how to board the ship. Excellent communication skills, telephone skills, being able to communicate clearly and assisting passengers in a friendly and helpful way is a must for Ticket Agents. Fulltime and Part-time positions are available for both morning and evening shifts as well as flexible hours. Cashier experience is a plus. Starting pay is $13.00 p/hour. Benefits include 401K, holiday pay and season end bonus of .50 per hour for every hour worked.
This part-time shore position could include one or both of the duties of Boarding Attendant and Cardeck Security Officer. The hours for this split-shift position are flexible so that you can work mornings, evenings, or both. The Boarding Attendant facilitates accessible boarding to passengers needing boarding assistance by operating the Badger’s chairlift. Responsibilities of the boarding attendant include assisting passengers on and off the chairlift and operating the chairlift’s controls to bring the chairlift up and down during boarding and disembarking. Boarding attendants must be friendly and polite, able to learn the fine details of operating the chairlift, and are able to walk up and down stairs multiple times per shift. The Cardeck Security Officer monitors and controls access to the ship from the car deck for all employees, passengers, and guests. Responsibilities of the cardeck security officer include checking the employee IDs of staff boarding, ensuring only ticketed passengers are boarding the ship, and ensuring no unauthorized vehicles or luggage are brought on board. Security or law enforcement experience is preferred but not necessary. Cardeck security officers must be able to be alert of all surroundings while being welcoming to passengers. Starting pay is $13.00/hour. Benefits include 401K, holiday pay, and a season-end bonus of .50/hour for every hour worked.
Under the direction of the General Manager, this position is responsible for supervising and participating in all warehousing activities for LMC. This position is also responsible for overseeing shore facilities and will be our designated Primary Facility Security Officer. This person may be called upon to assist Interlake Logistics Solutions in the acquisition and distribution of supplies. Benefits include 401K, holiday pay, health, dental and vision. Duties and Responsibilities: Food Service Ordering, shipping, receiving, and maintaining par orders in the warehouse Proper rotation of products, performing monthly inventories and monitoring, and reporting damage and waste Purchasing Agent Coordinate LMC deliveries with the purchasing agent Gift Shop Shipping, receiving and transfers to the gift shop Delivering gift shop supplies to boat Marine Shop Shipping, receiving, and transfer to the marine shop At the request of the Senior Chief Engineer, warehouse personnel will put up ship supplies and deliver them to the boat Laundry Ship laundry removed and returned as requested Responsible for quality of laundered linen and keeping laundry supplied Maintenance Keep warehouse up to LMC and Health Code standards Maintain and care for equipment involved with warehouse operation including warehouse stake truck Staff Supervise the positions necessary to effectively and efficiently operate the warehouse Policies and Procedures Abide by all company policies, procedures and regulations Attitude Must demonstrate a positive and cooperative attitude towards the company, coworkers and their positions Maintain courteous attitude with vendors Other Duties May be requested to serve in other areas when necessary according to staffing needs in those areas To be flexible and adaptable to serve in other areas when necessary Required Licenses, Documents Education, Abilities and/or Experience A TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card) Card. Work Schedule This description is for a full-time, year round position. You will typically work 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, potentially more hours if circumstances require. The workday will begin around 8:00AM and end sometime between 4:00pm and 5:00PM with some flexibility. The Warehouse Attendant is a full-time seasonal position responsible for all LMC warehouse activities. This person is responsible for ordering, shipping, receiving, and maintaining par orders in the warehouse, and is responsible for delivering orders to the ship. This person will also be called to load/ unload vehicles on the ship and to perform general property maintenance. The Warehouse Attendant is also responsible for the removal and disposal of coal ash from the ship. This position requires employees to work mornings, evenings, and weekends. The Warehouse Attendant must also be flexible and adaptable to serve in other areas when needed. Experience operating heavy machinery, forklift certification, and a CDL are preferred. Benefits include 401K, holiday pay, and a season-end bonus of .50 per hour for every hour worked.

On Board—Hospitality

Work to ensure customers’ safety and enjoyment. Tasks include, but are not limited to taking customer orders, register work, and maintaining cleanliness in the passenger areas. Must enjoy customer interaction and have the ability to multi-task. You can work three days in this position and earn 36-39 hours p/wk. Prior retail experience is a plus, but not required. Starting pay for days is $13.00 p/hour starting pay for nights is $13.35. Both positions include tips, holiday pay, 401K, and a season-end bonus of .50 for every hour worked! Responsible for neatly stocking shelves, product inventory, retail sales, and merchandising in the Badger’s onboard gift shop. You must enjoy customer interaction, and take pride in keeping the gift shop neat, attractive, and organized. Retail/Cashier experience is a plus but not required. You can work three days in this position and earn 36-39 hours p/wk. Starting pay for days is $13.00 p/hour starting pay for nights is $13.35. Responsible for the daily passenger entertainment that is offered aboard the Badger. Entertainers have the ability and confidence to interact with a diverse group of people of all ages. The Galley team works together to create a clean and positive environment to provide excellent meals for both the crewmembers and passengers. We encourage cooks to bring their own style of cooking and recipes for meals and baked goods. Responsible for assisting Galley Manager in planning weekly menus, preparing, and presentation of food served; maintaining the highest standard of food quality and cleanliness. Prior cook experience required. You can work three days in this position and earn 36-39 hours p/wk. Starting pay for days is $17.00 p/hour. Works independently to provide an evening meal for the crewmembers and preps food for the day shift. Responsibilities include baking, stocking, and cleaning galley areas. Must be self-driven, manage time wisely, and have prior cooking experience including baking. Starting pay is $17.35 p/hour. These positions assist the Lead Cook on duty in preparing, serving, and presenting passenger and crew meals. They prepare cold and hot food items in large quantities. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to unloading of ship supplies, maintaining on-board stock, and cleaning galley areas. These positions are often given an opportunity to present the main course or baked goods to the crew. Prior cooking/baking experience including working a flat grill is preferred. You can work three days in this position and earn 36-39 hours p/wk. Starting pay for days is $14.00 p/hour. Starting pay for nights is $14.35 p/hour. The Galley Utility position utilizes the onboard dishwashing machine for proper cleaning of all kitchen equipment and utensils. Provides meal set up for crew meals, assists with maintaining a clean galley, and loading/stocking galley supplies. This position is the perfect entry-level position! Room for advancement, either within the galley or other departments. Get 36-39 hours working three days a week! Ideal candidates will be able to work from May 18th to Oct 9th but we are willing to work around your school/work schedule. Starting wage is $13.00 p/hour plus holiday pay, 401K and season-end bonus for every hour worked.

On Board—Deck & Engine

Responsible to manage, oversee and direct the Deck Department for the daily operations of the vessel. Must possess a Mate’s License, valid Merchant Mariner’s Credential, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), current US Coast Guard Medical Certificate and be legally eligible to be employed in the United States. Be prepared to live and work aboard the vessel for the duration of the sailing season from mid-May to mid-October. Employee will stand a 4-hour watch, twice a day, 7 days a week. Eligible for AMO Medical, LMC dental, vision and 401K after completing 60-day probationary period. Competitive wages.
Under the direction of the Mate on watch, the AB is responsible for assisting with supervising the deck crew. Assists in loading and unloading the ship as well as performing deck maintenance and other projects as required. Experience in line handling and winches is a plus. The AB can expect to live aboard the ship and stand a 4-hour watch, twice a day, 7 days per week for the sailing season (mid-May to mid-Oct). Candidates must possess a Merchant Mariner Credential with AB-Unlimited endorsement, a current Medical Certificate, and a valid TWIC card. Mandatory physical, drug screen, and background check. Eligible for benefits after completing a 90-day probationary period. Stating AB pay $23.91/hour – overtime $35.86/hour. Guaranteed Holiday pay and available 8 hours of overtime p/check.
An entry-level position in the Deck Department. The OS performs deck department functions including line handling, deck maintenance, and fire/lifeboat/emergency duties. The OS can expect to live aboard the ship and stand a 4-hour watch, twice a day, 7 days per week during the sailing season of May to October. The OS is required to hold or have the ability to obtain a USCG Merchant Mariner Credential and a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Starting pay is $21.45/hour/overtime $32.18/hour. Eligible for benefits after 90 days which include medical, dental, vision, and 401K.
This shipboard position works under the direction of the Mate on watch and is responsible for making rounds of 15 punch clock stations. Is also responsible to check all Fire-Safe doors. Ability to be alert of all surroundings while maintaining a pleasant demeanor with passengers; reporting any suspicious activity to the Mate on Watch. Candidates must have the ability to climb flights of stairs several times in one evening. The Patrolman is required to hold or have the ability to obtain a USCG Merchant Mariner Credential and a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Starting pay for this position is $13.35 p/hour. Benefits include 401K, holiday pay and a season-end bonus of .50 per hour for every hour worked.
The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing the safe operation and maintenance of all machinery aboard the historic steamship Badger, including her unique 7,000 HP Skinner Unaflow reciprocating engines and coal fired boilers. The Chief Engineer also handles the day-to-day administrative duties involving the engineering crew, the ordering of needed supplies, and maintenance tasks using the NS software. Chief Engineers work a rotating schedule and sail with the Badger during the summer season. The Chief Engineer is expected to maintain a respectful working relationship with the Senior Chief, the Captains, as well as the shore side personnel. Assists with the operation and maintenance of all vessel operating equipment and systems. Be prepared to live and work aboard the vessel the duration of the sailing season from mid-May to mid-October. Employees will stand a 4-hour watch, twice daily, 7 days per week. Eligible for AMO medical, dental, vision and 401K after completing 60-day probationary period. Applicants for licensed engineer positions must be qualified and possess the 3rd Engineer of steam vessels of unlimited endorsement of 4000 HP or higher, possess valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), Valid Merchant Mariners Credential issued by the U.S. Coast Guard with proper endorsements, including at least Third Assistant Engineer of steam vessel of unlimited horsepower, current US Coast Guard Medical Certificate and be legally eligible to be employed in the United States. An entry-level position in the engine room. The coal passer assists the Fireman in operating and maintaining the ship’s boilers and conveyor equipment. The coal passer can expect to live aboard the ship and stand a 4-hour watch, twice a day, 7 days per week during the sailing season.
